"Yellow 9" III/JG 26
Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3
CFS2 Only

1. Install
Unzip files to the aircraft folder in the Combat Flight Simulator 2 folder. All files will be installed in the proper place.
I have included a basic panel. If you would like to use another Bf 109, chose a panel from another source and copy the panel folder over the panel folder in this aircraft container. I have included a text file listing the Virtual Cockpit information. Simply cut and paste this over the Virtual Cockpit information in the panel.cfg of the panel of your choice to enable the VC. One option is use the Bf 109E-4 panel available from the Real Battle Shop at http://www2u.biglobe.ne.jp/~LD-REP/REALBATTLEPANEL.htm It is a little different than a Bf 109E-3, but not that far off.
Sound files are aliased. If you own CFS1 you can copy over the sound folder from the Bf109e. Also you can search on the web for other sound files.

2. Aircraft Information
The Bf 109E-3 replaced the E-1 on the battlefield. The E-3 featured the DB 601Aa powerplant with 1175 hp. This raised top speed from 334 mph to 348 mph. Armament was improved to feature two wing mounted MG FF 20mm cannon in place of the MG 17 wing mounted machine guns. Initial production versions also had a hub firing 20mm cannon, but this was discontinued as engine vibration hampered the operation of the cannon. There was no capability for external stores of any type. Initial deliveries were made during the fall of 1939. The E-3 remained in production until the E-4 appeared during late spring 1940.

3. Model Information
The plane modeled is a Bf 109E-3 assigned to III/JG26 at Caffiers during the summer of 1940. It contains a mult-res model to help frame rates. I have a mid-range setup and have found no major issues with frame rates while playing 8 vs. 8 quick combat other than some dipping in frame rates while going head to head with 8 aircraft.
A functioning virtual cockpit is also included, although stick, throttle, etc. are not animated.
As the E-3 did not originally carry any external stores, these are not modeled. I believe some E-3's were later converted, but I wanted to stay true to the original specs (plus as this is my first plane, I was just as glad to not have to learn one more thing).

4. Credits
I would like to thank Gregory Pierson for allowing me to use his airfile with this plane. I would also recommend that you check out the Gregory's website with the 714th Flight Test Center. This is the home of the 1% airfiles and they are constantly updating. The site explains the concept better than I can; therefore I will leave it at that. Just remember that stock planes are not modeled to the 1% tolerance, therefore this plane is not intended to fight against them.

The pilot is courtesy of Dave Eckert. I simply added textures. His pilot.fsc is available from both his website and Freeflightdesign.com. Dave has authorized use of the pilot within freeware distributions. Thanks Dave.

After many attempts to do a proper spinning prop texture, I used the 3 blade prop texture created by Finn Newick. In the readme Finn has authorized distribution of the unmodified file. I've been working with his excellent tutorial, and hopefully will be able to do my own for my next project. For other textures and great skins and tutorials visit his web site.
